Bawtry Garden Search Activity Update

The images below are of items found as part of our Garden Search Activity linked to our Hunt for Roman Bawtry Project.

BAWTRY GARDEN SEARCH ACTIVITY UPDATE

Whilst the finds were not, unfortunately, Roman; they are still of interest. Through our remote liaison with our region’s Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) we received the following report on these finds discovered in the DN10 6HP area of the town:

“These both appear to be machine pressed and mass produced, thus Modern and too young for PAS to investigate any further. The broken one has the look of the Art Deco Egyptian revival style of the 1920s and 30s perhaps. Without knowing the size or details of the reverse, I can’t be certain of function, but I suspect they are both dress accessories, or possibly decoration from furniture. The one with the cross appears to have a tubular fitting, which made me wonder if it was the head of a hatpin.

Portable Antiquities Scheme 10/7/24.”

Remember as part of our Hunt for Roman Bawtry Project we are been encouraging Bawtry residents to get involved – scroll to the news item we posted on 20 March 2024 below. To date we have one declaration from a resident in the Church Street area stating his search had proved negative and the finds presented here.  Negative searches are equally as important as those that report finds. Either way you can report your activity via the contact button on this website.

HAPPY HUNTING WE LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU SOON!
