Heritage events during Bawtry Festival Week
Posted on 7 April 2025
Our contribution to Bawtry Festival Week has expanded this year. There are two events on Tuesday 17th June. At 10.30 in the morning, at the library, Sherelle Hawes will be giving a talk about Ann Everard, the pioneering teacher whose album we recently acquired – see “An Historical Acquisition” posted on 14th February 2025. This will be backed up by a display in the Bawtry Heritage Centre section of the library. In the evening of Tuesday 17th June, at 7 pm, we will be giving a presentation at the Phoenix Theatre about our desktop review of Roman Bawtry, and the conclusions that review enable us to draw.
There will be two guided walks of our Town Trail on Thursday 19th June, one at 2 pm and the other at 7 pm. They will start from the Market Cross. They’re free; just turn up. Children aged under 14 years should be accompanied by an adult. Please be sure to wear sturdy footwear.
Entries submitted to our heritage essay/story competition will be displayed at the library throughout the week. (See the details about this posted on 29th March.) The competition is open now – the closing date is 2nd June.
Although not organised by BHG, there are also other events during the week which will be of interest to history fans:
Monday 16th June, 7 pm at the library – an archaeology talk
Tuesday 17th June, 2 pm at the Crown Hotel – a talk about family history
Friday 20th & Saturday 21st June, 10 am to 4 pm  – St Helena’s Church at Austewfield will be open for visitors
