New history paper about RAF Bawtry
Posted on 12 May 2026

We’ve posted a new history paper, “RAF Bawtry” in the “Bawtry History” part of this site. Bawtry Hall was the headquarters of No. 1 Group RAF Bomber Command, and subsequently No. 1 Group RAF Strike Command. It covers the base’s role in the Second World War, the Cold War and the Falklands War, plus how the RAF altered the Hall, what life was like there, and the impact of the RAF on the town. For the aircraft buffs, the paper has a lavishly illustrated appendix about all the equipment used by the squadrons controlled by the headquarters.RAF Bawtry
