Our earlier post (20th March 2024) on The Hunt for Roman Bawtry describes the project – i.e. to try to determine whether there was a settlement at Bawtry in Roman times. An important part of the project is a desktop review. In archaeological research, a desktop review is a process where all existing records appertaining to a particular area are collated and reviewed, to see if they inform upon the likelihood of the existence of further heritage assets (such as “buried” archaeology) in that area. Part 1 of our desktop review concerns records about Roman roads in the vicinity. It can be read below:
