The Hunt for Roman Bawtry – Desktop Review
Posted on 11 November 2024

Our earlier post (20th March 2024) on The Hunt for Roman Bawtry describes the project – i.e. to try to determine whether there was a settlement at Bawtry in Roman times. An important part of the project is a desktop review. In archaeological research, a desktop review is a process where all existing records appertaining to a particular area are collated and reviewed, to see if they inform upon the likelihood of the existence of further heritage assets (such as “buried” archaeology) in that area.

Stage Two, Part One of our desktop review concerns land use, artefacts, and evidence of settled human activity in central Bawtry and the hinterlands to the immediate north and west of the modern town. This can be read via the document attachment below.
